The Nerd Olympics 2006
Last year Nerd Olympics was spawned, the event was a huge success, due in large part to the noble heroism and ability shown by all the athletes involved. It should be no surprise, therefore, that the event became an annual one, just as I had hoped, and that year two was even more successful than year one.
Pre-Game Show
Weskimo created the brilliant medals to be handed out at Nerd Olympics by spray painting N64 and PS1 memory cards bronze, silver, and gold.
This is a picture of one of the two TVs we had set up for Nerd Olympics before anyone arrived.
Competitors came and went over the two days. Here, DMUSER arrives on day one and gazes upon...
...the greatest site a nerd could behold.
Before competition could begin computers had to be set up. Here's DMUSER and Wylliecoyote hard at work.
Two Days of Glory
The first event of Nerd Olympics 2006 was Street Fighter II, for which emotions ran high.
Sadly, I, Newbs, came in second place in the event to Weskimo.
To relieve you, my dear reader, of the sadness revealed above, is an image of me being crowned glorious champion of Super Mario Kart. I am flanked by the brothers Picholas who won silver and bronze.
Magic was probably the hardest fought event at Nerd Olympics. Here, DMUSER feels the pain of my beast deck crashing down upon his cleric deck.
The champions of Magic were Dubious with gold, Psycho Limey with silver, and Doug with bronze.
Nerd Olympics is not only about playing those games for which medals can be won. Dr. Mario was a favourite non-event this year.
Here we see competitors dueling for Goldeneye supremacy.
In Goldeneye, Nicholas Picholas won gold, Fake Picholas won silver, and Weskimo won bronze.
Here are the champions for the doubles Perfect Dark event.
Speaking of a doubles event, this appears to be a group shot during the Mario triathlon.
The winners for that triathlon can be seen here.
I don't know what Jon is playing here, but I'd like to think it's Starcraft.
These came to be the Starcraft champions.
The DDR champions were Nicholas Picholas with the gold, Vanessa with the silver, and Psycho Limey with the bronze.
These are the Smash Bros. Melee champions. You can see Trebek with the bronze looking up at his medal admiring it, as Link admires the Triforce.
Post-Game Show
Sadly, even Nerd Olympics must end eventually. This is the area around the TV shown earlier.
The three big medal winners this year were Brentor in third, Weskimo in second, and Nicholas Picholas once again in first. I finished a respectable fourth.
Here's the full list of events and the winners for each if you're curious.
Nerd Olympics 2006 was a spectacular event, here's to many more.
